2026

Dr. Sunita Chandrasekaran, Director of the First State AI Institute at the University of Delaware, has been named one of ten recipients of the 2026 Outstanding Delaware Women in STEM award. Presented as part of Delaware Women & Girls in STEM Day and organized by Million Women Mentors–Delaware (MWM-DE), the award recognizes leaders who are advancing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics throughout the state.

The honor celebrates individuals who demonstrate technical excellence, leadership, and a strong commitment to mentorship, education, community engagement, and workforce development. MWM-DE highlighted this year’s recipients for their accomplishments, perseverance, brilliance, and dedication to inspiring future generations of women in STEM.

As part of the recognition, honorees were invited to Legislative Hall in Dover to attend a proclamation signing and Concurrent Resolution ceremony in the Delaware House and Senate. The celebration also included recognition from Delaware Governor Matt Meyer and Lieutenant Governor Kyle Evans Gay.
